Mainsat is a beautiful village where you can see right in its Centre the impressive XIIIth-XVIth Century Castle which steeeps the country in an atmosphere as felt in olden days.

 

At 10 and 15 kms from here

You can have a glimpse on the castles of Vauchassade and of Mazeau at Peyrat la Nonière and many others sometimes nestled in a verdant landscape.

If you go a little further, you’ll come across other little charming villages (Sermur, Lupersat, Chard, Lioux les Monges, Champagnat, St Domet) all built in granite and you’ll be attracted by very typical small churches.

You can also discover the Abbey of Bonlieu crested deep in the valley, as well as the roman churches of Rougnat and Evaux les Bains not to say the "Abbatiale" of Chambon sur Voueize.

Visit Aubusson : A very famous little village known for its weavings as well as for its ancient and contemporary tapestries displayed at the Jean Lurçat Museum and at the Town Hall (Hotel de Ville).

Not far from our place, automobile racing lovers will appreciate the outstanding circuit of the Mas du Clos in a wonderful undulating green site. (See the website).

The Castle of Saint Maixent.

At 10kms from Aubusson is located Felletin also famous for its tapestries. A little further, you’ll come across the Arfeuille Castle.

Chénerailles is known for the majestic feudal Castle of Villemonteix whose style is in between the Medieval and Renaissance period. It has been fully and well restored. (See the website).

Masgot : The sculpted village and its permanent exhibition “ All about Stone” (La Pierre dans tous ses états).

Boussac : A 11th Century Castle restored as 15th century, overhanging the Creuse Valley. The unusual site of Yellow Stones( huge granite blocks) will certainly impress you.

On your way to Clermont Ferrand, you can visit Vulcania and the Lemptegy Crater.

You'r admiration is forced by Le Puy de Dôme and the majestic view on the Auvergne volcanoes, the chain of the Puys and also the Sancy Massif.

Montluçon is now endowed with a new aquatic centre with an olympic swimming pool and all sorts of aquatic games.

Guéret at 60 km : The castle of  Théret, visit the wolves Park (Parc aux Loups) of Chabrières, the arboretum of la Sedelle by Gilles Clement.

Don’t miss the Plateau de Millevache, famous for its numerous sources and its picturesque wide landscapes. There’s also the Vassiviere Lake and its contemporary Museum. Here, you can practise sailing, nautical skiing and wind surfing.

The Abbaye of Bénévent welcomes you. It’s a pretty little village of Creuse with its scenography of life as it used to be in olden days.
